Toby’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. In 2021, at just 11 years old, his life changed dramatically when an undetected tumour wrapped around his spinal cord. Following emergency surgery and three months in hospital, Toby was left with partial paralysis. Rather than allowing this experience to define him, he chose to redefine what his future could look like.
From hospital wards to racing tracks, Toby approached recovery with humour, resilience, and an unshakeable mindset. What began as determination to regain independence soon evolved into a passion for elite sport — and a powerful dream to compete at the highest level.
Turning Adversity into Athletic Excellence
Toby discovered wheelchair racing after exploring adaptive sport and quickly found his stride. Inspired by Paralympic athletes and driven by his own competitive spirit, he committed himself fully to training and performance.
Now just 15 years old, Toby:
- Is ranked 2nd in the world in the U17s
- Is a multi-gold medallist
- Holds titles as Welsh and English National Champion
- Trains six days a week under the guidance of Paralympic Champion Micky Bushell MBE
- Is working towards representing Team GB at the LA 2028 Paralympic Games
His progress in such a short space of time is exceptional and speaks volumes about his discipline, focus, and belief in what is possible.
